Marriage License

Marriage licenses may be obtained from the Brookline Town Clerk’s office and the cost is $80. The license is valid for 60 days from the date it is issued. During that time an authorized person must perform your wedding ceremony – otherwise, the license is void.
To apply for a marriage license
- Complete the Application for Vermont License of Civil Marriage
- Bring the application and the required documents to the town clerk’s office
- Pay the $80 fee
- Have both parties sign the application
Required documents
- Proof of identity, such as a driver’s license or passport
- Information about your parents, including their places of birth
- Information about any previous marriages or civil unions
License validity
- The license is valid for 60 days from the date it’s issued
- During that time, an authorized person must perform the wedding ceremony
After the ceremony
- The person who performed the ceremony returns the license to the town clerk within 10 days
- The town clerk files the original and the couple receives a marriage certificate
