Marriage License

Marriage licenses may be obtained from the Brookline Town Clerk’s office and the cost is $80. The license is valid for 60 days from the date it is issued. During that time an authorized person must perform your wedding ceremony – otherwise, the license is void.
Obtaining a Marriage License & Certificate
- Complete the Application for Vermont License of Civil Marriage.
- Bring the application and the required documents to the town clerk’s office.
- Pay the $80 fee (add $10 if you’d like a certified copy of the license).
- Both parties must sign the application in person at the Town Clerk’s office.
- The person who performs the ceremony must return the license to the town clerk within 10 days after the ceremony.
- The town clerk files the original and the couple receives a Marriage Certificate.
Required documents
- Proof of identity, such as a driver’s license or passport
- Information about your parents, including their places of birth
- Information about any previous marriages or civil unions
