Welcome to the Town of Brookline, Vermont
A Warm and Friendly Place to Live and Visit
Situated between the West River and Putney Mountain, Brookline, Vermont is a small, rural town with a little more than 500 residents. The famous Round Schoolhouse sits across from the Town Office. Brookline may not have a “downtown,” gas station, or shopping center, but it does offer a warm and friendly place to live and visit.
Biennial Voter Checklist Review
The Brookline Board of Civil Authority met last week to review the voter list for the town as required by law. We realize that people move into and out of town and may forget to update their residency status. Our Town Clerk has mailed out “challenge letters” to those names whose records need to be updated. If you receive one of these letters, please take the time to fill out the form so that our records are accurate. You can check off CANCEL my voter registration if you no longer live in Brookline, You can CONFIRM your address and remain on the voter list or you can UPDATE your Vermont registration with your new address. Military service members who are out of the US may identify their current status.
We have enclosed a self addressed envelope for your convenience.
If you are new to Brookline – WELCOME! Don’t forget to register to VOTE
Feel free to stop in at the Town Office (see hours and location at top of page) to fill out a voter registration form.
Please reach out if you are interested in getting involved in a committee. Volunteers are needed for the Round Schoolhouse Committee, the Brookline Meetinghouse Committee, and the Planning Commission, for starters. I can be reached at DMaggio.BrooklineVT@Gmail.com
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Sincerely, Dot Maggio
Archivists Visit Town Vault and Round Schoolhouse
We had a wonderful visit with archivists to check out our Brookline vault and historic records preservation. Thanks to Alyssa Schmidt for setting this up! Our guests were Rachel Onuf, Director of the Vermont Historical Records Program, Jane Cadwalader, Roving Archivist with Vermont State Archives and Records Administration, and Lee Fleming, Intern and Student at Keene State College. Thanks also to Morah Chowning for her local knowledge of all things Brookline, especially the Round Schoolhouse!

Learn about our history….
The Round Schoolhouse
In 1822, the Round Schoolhouse was built and used as a school until 1929 when it was replaced by the present school building. The Round Schoolhouse served the Town from 1929 to 1989 as a Town Hall for various town functions.
The Brookline Meetinghouse
In 1836 the Brookline Baptist Church was erected. It is currently known locally as The Historic Brookline Meetinghouse.
Brookline Selectboard, and other committee meetings, are recorded and posted on Fact TV Government Programming or on our Town of Brookline YouTube channel.
